About Rebuildables
Rebuildable vapes are DIY vapes that allow you to customise your experience by building your own coils on the build deck. In recent years, many new types of rebuildable style vapes have come onto the market - we'll explain some of the differences between the different types below.
RBAs
RBA or rebuildable atomiser is the umbrella term for all rebuildables - vape setups that you build yourself. While this used to be a common term in the vaping world, it is now used less commonly due to the emergence of the following types of reusable vape.
RBA heads
Distinct from the catch-all term of RBA, an RBA head is a specific type of enclosed deck designed for use with sub-ohm vape tanks and pod systems. Like a normal pre-built coil head, these can be removed and replaced easily. These are considered a beginner rebuildable and have recently become increasingly popular with the rise of pod RBAs.
For a great RBA head, choose the SMOK RPM 40 RBA coil or the Vapefly TGO RBA
RDAs
RDAs or rebuildable dripping atomisers are unique because they do not have a tank. Instead, they contain a small juice well below the build deck with the end of the wick placed inside. This allows the e-liquid to saturate the wicking material. Because of the low e-juice capacity, vapers will need to frequently drip e-liquid onto the coils and wicking between puffs on their vape.
Some of our favourite RDAs are the Suicide Mods Nightmare RDA 25mm, the Vaperz Cloud Valhalla V2 RDA 40mm, and of course the Hellvape Dead Rabbit V2 RDA.
RSAs
RSAs or rebuildable squonk atomisers, also known as squonk-ready RDAs are a variation on the RDA vape design. Because RDAs need to be refilled with e-liquid frequently, some vapers designed a mod with a built-in bottle of e-liquid instead of a vape tank or juice well. This bottle is positioned below the build deck and saturates the wicking when squeezed, allowing vapers to enjoy the experience of an RDA without the hassle of dripping.

RTAs
RTAs or rebuildable tank atomisers are distinct from other types of RBA because they have a chimney and bell system covering the deck and reaching up to the drip tip. This means that the vapour rises through the chimney in a highly concentrated stream which is enjoyed by flavour chasers. The RTA design may have single or dual coils on its deck, which is below or in the middle of the tank section, and creates a vacuum pressure in the tank, providing more efficient e-juice wicking.
We recommend the Wotofo Troll X RTA, the OXVA Arbiter Solo RTA , or the Hellvape Dead Rabbit V2 RTA to anyone looking for a rebuildable tank atomiser.
RDTAs
RDTAs or rebuildable dripping tank atomisers are a hybrid of RTAs and RDAs - they contain both a RDA style build deck with a full tank beneath. Similar to squonkers, RDTAs are designed to get the impressive performance of an RDA without having to continuously drip e-liquid onto the coils, which can be a pain for vaping on the go.
Rebuildables FAQs
If you have a good knowledge of ohm's law and physics and are comfortable building your own coils, using an RBA vape should be very safe. However, we recommend ensuring that you have a very good knowledge of vape safety before using a rebuildable.
Yes - some rebuildables can be used for MTL (mouth to lung) vaping. While the majority of rebuildables cater towards DTL vaping, MTL fans shouldn't feel left out. The Innokin ARES-2 D22 MTL RTA is an example of an RTA designed specifically for MTL vaping with unbeatable flavours.
