What is 50/50 e-liquid?

50/50 e-liquid gets its name from its equal combination of VG (vegetable glycerine) and PG (propylene glycol). This 50/50 blend is what makes this type of vape juice perfect for use with low-powered MTL setups, combining great flavours with discreet clouds of vapour! Despite containing VG and PG in equal quantities, these are also sometimes referred to as high PG e-liquids, and are great for use in pod kits and starter vape kits.

50-50 E Liquid FAQs

50/50 vape juice is not necessarily harsh, but it can provide a stronger throat hit than other types of e-liquids. For example, whilst nic salts also have a 50/50 ratio of VG/PG they are not made with freebase nicotine but instead nicotine salt which is made to offer a smooth throat hit even at higher nicotine strengths. Don't let this put you off though, as many vapers enjoy the satisfying throat hit that 50/50 e-liquids provide; these are also especially great for ex-smokers.

50/50 e-juice is supposed to be used with coils that have higher resistances, otherwise the coil will vaporise too much of the e-liquid and provide an unpleasant experience. We recommend using an 0.8 ohm coil or higher, with 1.2 ohm often being the sweet spot for many. Using a 0.8 ohm coil creates a more cloudy vape, whereas the higher you go, the less vapour you will get.

The best wattage for 50/50 e-liquid can vary depending on the specific device and coil being used. In general, a wattage range of 15-30 watts can be a good starting point for 50/50 e-liquid, but you may need to adjust the wattage based on your personal preferences and the flavour profile of the e-liquid. It's always a good idea to start at a lower wattage and gradually increase it until you find the sweet spot for your device and e-liquid.

50/50 e-liquid refers to an e-liquid that contains 50% vegetable glycerine (VG) and 50% propylene glycol (PG) as well as freebase nicotine for that satisfying nicotine hit. VG is a thick and sweet liquid that produces large clouds of vapour, while PG is a thinner liquid that provides a stronger throat hit and carries the flavour better. Equal proportions of the two liquids make these vape juices suitable for use in low powered devices such as pod kits.

While nic salts also often contain 50% VG and 50% PG, the key difference is that these e-liquids use a different type of nicotine. Nic salts use nicotine in its natural salt form mixed with benzoic acid to make it smoother on the throat and more easily absorbed by the body. Nicotine salt e-liquids are designed to provide a smoother and more satisfying vaping experience, particularly for people who are trying to quit smoking. The main difference between 70/30 vape juice and 50/50 e-liquid is the ratio of VG (vegetable glycerine) to PG (propylene glycol) in each product. 70/30 vape juice contains 70% VG and 30% PG, and is also referred to as high VG e-liquid. Most shortfills fall into this category. On the other hand, 50/50 e-liquid contains an equal amount of both VG and PG.

VG is a thicker and sweeter liquid that produces larger and denser vapour clouds, while PG is a thinner and flavourless liquid that carries flavour better and provides a stronger throat hit. As a result, 70/30 vape juice is typically preferred by vapers who prioritise vapour production over flavour intensity and throat hit, while 50/50 e-liquid is a good choice for vapers who want a more balanced experience with a combination of vapour and flavour.

High VG shortfills are better suited to high powered and sub-ohm devices because they are thicker and take more power to vaporise. They also can clog up coils with their residue, so they might lead to you having to replace coils more often. Higher PG e-liquids are perfect for a lower powered or pod kit setup where they can provide great flavour.

The nicotine strength of 50/50 e-liquids varies between brands and ranges. If you're not sure how much nicotine you want to be vaping, it's a good idea to experiment to find out what works for you. If you're a former heavy smoker who is used to smoking a pack a day and looking to satisfy those nicotine cravings, 12mg or 18mg is likely a good place to start.

Many low-powered vape kits are good to use with 50/50 vape juice.
