What are SMOK coils?

SMOK coils are the replaceable heating heads used in SMOK tanks and pods. Each coil family is designed for a specific tank or pod series, with different resistances and wicking to suit MTL or DTL vaping styles. Learn the basics in our beginner’s guide to vape coils and how to prime a fresh coil before use.

What are the key types?

Across SMOK’s ecosystem you’ll find classic Baby Beast (V8 Baby) coils for compact sub-ohm tanks, high-airflow mesh options for TFV16 and TFV18 cloud tanks, plus RPM/LP series for pod mods. For tighter draws, look for higher-resistance MTL options; for clouds, lower-resistance mesh options pair with high-VG e-liquids. If you prefer a more cigarette-like inhale, explore our MTL coils.

What is the best SMOK coils?

There isn’t a single “best” coil only the best match for your tank, e-liquid and preferred draw. Baby Beast users often choose mesh for strong flavour at moderate wattage. TFV16 and TFV18 users typically favour mesh variants for maximum vapour. If you like a tighter, cigarette-like inhale, choose higher-resistance MTL coils and 50/50 e-liquids. For DTL clouds, pick low-resistance mesh coils and high-VG shortfills.

Choosing the right SMOK coils

  1. Confirm your exact tank or pod name and buy the matching coil family.
  2. Pick a resistance to suit your style (higher = tighter MTL, lower = airier DTL).
  3. Pair e-liquid appropriately (50/50 for MTL; high VG for DTL).
  4. Prime the coil and start at the lower end of its recommended power, then adjust to taste.

Baby Beast picks

The Baby Beast (TFV8 Baby) platform is all about compact performance and easy everyday use. If you prioritise flavour and a smooth draw in a smaller tank, look to mesh or multi-core V8 Baby options and run them at sensible wattages for coil longevity.

For an overview of how tank design affects coil behaviour airflow, wicking and refilling our beginner’s guide to vape tanks is a handy primer. Keep your e-liquid choice consistent too: a 70/30 blend suits sub-ohm mesh, while 50/50 works with higher-resistance options in compatible tanks. Thoughtful pairing keeps Baby Beast setups punchy, clean and reliable for daily use.

TFV16 power

Built for big airflow and high wattage, TFV16 coils shine when you want plush clouds and saturated flavour. Single, dual and triple mesh options ramp up vapour density as you move up the range just make sure your device and battery can support the power you choose.

Use thicker, high-VG shortfills and take time to prime the coil thoroughly before your first pull. If you’re shopping broadly for cloud-capable heads, our sub-ohm coil collection groups similar mesh styles so you can compare materials, formats and resistances side by side.

TFV18 cloud kings

TFV18 coils push the same cloud-chasing brief even further, with meshed and dual-meshed options plus an RBA for experienced users who prefer to rebuild. These coils work best with open airflow and steady power start low, then nudge up until flavour peaks.

If you’re new to airy DTL, our guide to sub-ohm vaping explains how coil resistance, airflow and e-liquid viscosity interact handy when you’re balancing taste, warmth and vapour output. As always, match the coil family to your exact tank name, and refresh coils regularly to keep performance consistent.
